Dwarf cars are designed primarily to promote exciting racing and to keep costs down. The bodyshells are 5/8-scale replicas of American automobiles from the 1930s and 1940s, powered by a motorcycle engine.
These replicas are of vintage race cars. The similarity ends there, as Dwarf cars are true open "modified-style" cars without fenders, and have a 1,250 cc (76 cu in) limitation on the engine size.
Dwarf cars are 5/8 scale replica models of vintage 1928-1948 American made automobiles. They have full steel roll cages; sheet metal bodies, and powered by 4 cylinder motorcycle engines up to 1250cc. They have full racing suspension and are capable of speeds over 100 mph (160 kmh) on the straight-aways. With their size and quickness, they are perfectly suited to asphalt track oval racing.
The Western States Dwarf Car Association, began in 1993, has become one of the most successful racing organizations in history, boasting an average of 80-100 Dwarf Cars at 4 National, and several regional, events a year.
There is also a class of Dwarf Cars that race on dirt called the Vintage Lite Series.
They race a mixed field of cars that resemble the vintage cars and some that resemble a scaled down version of the current dirt modified (these cars are often referred to as the MiniMods).
Dwarf cars use motorcycle engines as power plants, bringing interest from outside the normal "auto" racing crowd. Not just Fords and Chevy's fighting it out, but Suzuki, Kawasaki, Yamaha, and Honda as well. The sound of 4 cylinders dwarf cars at 11,000 rpm has quite an appeal! The weight to horsepower ratio is even greater than a full size late model stock car.
The body is really straight!
This vehicle runs real good and is ready to race!
Please note: these photos were taken in 2008,
